A new study has been released by analytical firm Zendrive (via Axios), based on data collected from drivers over the course of navigating their vehicles over 160 billion miles. The conclusion? Phone addicts are more dangerous behind the wheel than drunk drivers. According to the report, 6,227 pedestrians were killed last year "most likely" by a driver distracted by his or her phone. Zendrive says that phone addicts ignore the road 28% of the time while they're driving, are on the road 1.5x more than the general population and spend 3x more drive time using their phones.
