
Rich Communication Services (RCS) are the successor to SMS texting, and it was first rolled out late last year for the Google Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL on Verizon. With RCS, you can send messages as long as 8,000 characters, 50 times the 160 character cap on SMS. You'll know if a message that you sent someone has been read, and with RCS you can tell when someone is tapping out a message to you. RCS also allows up to 100 participants to chat at the same time, and messages can be sent and received over Wi-Fi.
