You can finally buy the iPhone XR unlocked and 'SIM-free' directly from Apple

Say what you will about the long-awaited "affordable" iPhone XR but it did stick out like a sore thumb in Apple's 2018 lineup. 

First off, it was indeed a long time between the iPhone XS and XS Max's release, and the colorful "cheap" iPhone XR's. Next in the line of oddities was that there are still no official Apple cases for the handsets to be seen in Apple Stores and online.
